Softspikes has launched the next generation of performance golf cleat offering even greater traction, comfort and durability. The revolutionary design also prevents clogging, eliminating the necessity for golfers to use a metal spike.
It also features a first-of-its-kind colour coded system, making it easy for consumers to select the thread insert system required for their golf shoes.
Ten years after launching the first in a series of high performance golf cleats, Softspikes Inc. takes the cleat market to a new level with the introduction of PULSAR, the most advanced high performance cleat ever made.
The new PULSAR cleat, featuring Softspikes’ proprietary Energised Traction Technology™, delivers maximum Traction thanks to a unique 16-component design that reacts to every single movement the golfer makes.
As part of the design, flexor knuckles built into the flex point on each of Pulsar’s eight legs offer enhanced strength, responsiveness and more than twice the flexibility of any other cleat on the market, In addition, reinforced arched webbing between each of Pulsar’s legs delivers instant energy every time the cleat is compressed, enhancing traction and providing unmatched stability, even in wet winter conditions.
The new Pulsar cleats come in a distinctive metallic silver colour and feature an ingenious new colour-coded system designed to make it easy for the consumer to select the correct cleats. Silver and green Pulsar cleats will be available for golf shoes offering the Fast-Twist™ insert system, fitted to more than 80% of golf shoes sold worldwide, including market leader Foot Joy. Silver and red cleats are designed for golf shoes featuring metal thread inserts, while Silver and purple cleats will be available for shoes requiring Q-Fit™ cleats.
“Pulsar is the most advanced cleat ever brought to the marketplace and it has been well named, not just because of its appearance, but also because of its extraordinary energetic properties,” said Leo Kahl, Softspikes’ Director of Marketing.
“Pulsar is clearly the way forward,” agreed Faris McMullin, the company’s Director of Research and Development, “and because of the proprietary nature of this cleat, there is simply no other product that can deliver the traction and stability it affords.”
Pulsar goes on sale in September 2004, with a suggested retail price of £9.99 for a set of cleats.
Softspikes is a division of Pride Sports, which was formed in January 2003 following Pride Manufacturing Company’s purchase of Softspikes Inc. and its sister company, Trisport Ltd of England. This acquisition essentially formed the world’s premiere golf accessories company, as Pride and Softspikes are the world’s leading golf tee and golf cleat lines, respectively. Today, Pride Sports is the world leader in the design and manufacture of cleats, spikes and receptacles for the entire golf footwear industry.
Since 1994, when Softspikes introduced its first cleats, the product has become one of the great success stories in the game of golf. Nowadays, more than 80% of competitors of the PGA Tours choose to wear plastic cleats on a weekly basis, even though metal spikes are still allowed.
A total of 80% of golfers who responded to a recent poll conducted by FootJoy UK stated they wore Softspikes regardless of the weather conditions.
Fifteen hundred and seventy eight golfers out of the 1,959 golfers who responded to the survey said they wore Softspikes in both wet and dry weather with only 122 respondents stated they only wore traditional steel spikes.
A mere 13% of respondents (259 golfers) said they wore Softspikes during the summer but then switched to steel spikes in winter.
“I would like to think that the recent FootJoy survey shows how well Softspikes perform in even the worst weather conditions,” said Sharon Fish, the marketing manager at Softspikes UK.
“Certainly, FootJoy wearers seem to have no qualms about wearing Softspikes in inclement conditions which suggests they have a great deal of confidence in the product.
“It also shows the wisdom of FootJoy’s decision to fit Softspikes as standard in all their new shoes.”
Softspikes recently enhanced its reputation for providing unbeatable traction, comfort and durability with the launch of its new Pulsar cleat - the long-awaited successor to its market-leading Black Widow cleat.
The new Pulsar cleat, featuring Softspikes’ proprietary Reactive Comfort Technology™, delivers maximum traction and performance thanks to a unique 16-component design that reacts to every single movement the golfer makes.
As part of the design, flexor knuckles built into the flex point on each of Pulsar’s eight legs offer enhanced strength, responsiveness and more than twice the flexibility of any other cleat on the market, In addition, reinforced arched webbing between each of Pulsar’s legs delivers instant energy every time the cleat is compressed, enhancing comfort and providing unmatched stability, even in wet winter conditions.

Black Widow Worn By Winner And 73% of Plastic Field at Funai Classic at Walt Disney World
Softspikes® BlackWidow™ recorded its 16th PGA Tour victory of the season as the winner and 73% of the plastic field at the FUNAI Classic at Walt Disney World, chose the No. 1 cleat on the PGA Tour.
The latest win for the Black Widow adds to an impressive list of 2003 victories which includes two major championships, with victories at the U.S. Open and British Open, respectively.
“Despite the course or the weather conditions, the best players in the world continue to choose Softspikes and our Black Widow brand of cleats,” said Leo Kahl, Director of Marketing, Softspikes, Inc.
Today, 99 percent of all shoes made in America are shipped with plastic cleats. Black Widow cleats with DCT are No. 1 in sales worldwide and are original equipment on FootJoy performance golf shoes.
All of those figures are verified by the independent Darrell Survey, which only certifies brands of plastic cleats worn each week on the PGA Tour and the other major professional tours in the United States. The Darrell Survey does not "brand" the use of metal spikes, which account for less than 1 percent of the products American golfers wear on the bottom of their golf shoes.

What’s the most important part of your game? You might think its powerful drives, those crisp iron shots or your stroke-saving chips around the greens –but you’d be wrong. It’s your stance.
The experts know that they have little or no chance of playing any shot to the best of their ability – or safely – without a totally secure stance. That is why a recent survey revealed PGA European Tour players change their Softspikes 12 times a year – with some changing their cleats every two weeks for added comfort and security.
Yet studies show that just 3% of club golfers change their golf cleats regularly. That means 97% either don't realise they need to change their golf cleats, or don't care. But they should.
Softspikes not only provide a secure stance more effectively than any other cleat on the market, they provide the ultimate in traction on slippery surfaces, helping you safely grip the turf on rolling fairways and steep hills in virtually all weather conditions.
But even the superior design and technology that is employed by Softspikes cannot eradicate wear and tear – so remember; change your Softspikes on a regular basis. It will improve your stance – and your scores.

Golf professionals all over the British Isles have discovered that Softspikes can become one of the most profitable products in their shops.
Professionals who have installed one of Softspikes' new Cleat Management Stations have witnessed a huge upturn in business and this has been particularly marked in shops where staff offer a free Changing Service to their customers.
"There is no doubt that the new Cleat Management Station has been an outstanding success," said Kevin Smith - Warley Park Golf Club
"I started to notice an increase in sales almost as soon as I put the unit beside the counter. But it really took off when we decided to go one stage further, actively asking customers if they wanted us to check to see if their Softspikes needed to be changed. I also noticed that customers would browse the shop while I changed their cleats, this has given us a lot of add on sales.
"Often, a golfer simply forgets to check to see if his Softspikes need replacing but, when reminded, he is quite prepared to fork out £8.99 for a replacement set.
"The product doesn't need selling it has been accepted by the golfers, and customers just need reminding to change cleats, it is a great way to generate increased business."
Over the years, Softspikes has discovered that around 80% of sales came from customers who had not intended to purchase cleats but were persuaded to do so when they saw the products in a shop.
The new Cleat Management Station was designed to enhance the likelihood of such impulse sales. Measuring only 100cm by 55 cm, it is small enough to sit beside the counter, but still large enough to attract attention when placed in a prominent area of the shop. Each Station is designed to hold 48 packs of Black Widow’s 48 packs of Shadow all for impulse buy and customers that don't want to wait to have their cleats changed and prefer to change themselves and 4 x 500 count bowls of each thread qfit, fast twist, and large plastic and small metal.
It also features a simple colour chart enabling the customer to select the correct cleats for his golf shoes.
"We have no doubt that the new Cleat Management Stations will drive sales of Softspikes products," said Sharon Fish, Softspikes UK Sales Merchandiser. "In fact, we have seen it work in practice. Already, 250 shops up and down the country have installed one and many of them have reported a considerable increase in business."
"Our research shows us that golfers like our products but still do not understand they have to be changed on a regular basis. The Cleat Management Station helps to change that.
"Likewise, we have found that many retailers do not realise just how profitable the sale of replacement cleats can be," Fish added. "However, the mathematics is simple enough. Let's assume for a second that you are the professional at a club that has 500 members. Let's also assume that half of the members have one pair of shoes and the other half have two. That means the professional has the potential to replace 750 sets of cleats, which at £8.99 a time translates to £6742.50, more, in fact, if the member changes cleats more that once a year.
"What's more, this business is also highly profitable for the retailer because, trade price for a blister pack of Black Widows is around £4.50, meaning a net profit of £3.15 on each pack of Black Widows sold."
Softspikes are the manufacturers of the world-famous top-selling Black Widow cleat. The Dynamic Cleat Technology built into every Black Widow has taken cleat performance to a new level. This patented feature allows the cleat to flex with every step a golfer takes, delivering maximum traction, comfort and durability.
Retailers wishing to obtain more information about the new Softspikes Cleat Management Stations should contact Sharon Fish, UK Sales Merchandiser on 07771 506426.
Just because Softspikes spend most of their life tucked away on the sole of the golfer’s shoe quietly doing their job doesn’t mean they should be almost invisible in the golf shop too.
Each and every golfer needs to change their Softspikes at least once a year to improve traction, comfort and durability – but they need reminding of this fact because most golf shoes are quickly discarded into the boot of a car or shoe bag after a round and worn cleats are hardly ever noticed.
In an independent study performed last year, it was found that 82% of golfers buying Softspikes made an impulse rather predetermined purchase because they had seen the brand name "Softspikes" on display and realised that it was time to change their golf cleats.
Getting the Softspikes brand name highly visible in the retail environment is the proven key to higher sales. By far the most effective point of sale material is the Softspikes floor display, which is seldom missed by the customer. This "silent salesman" not only increases visibility of the product, it also offers a colour-coded system for each thread, making it easy for the golfer to choose the right cleat for their shoe.
It certainly worked at Stoke Park Golf Club in Buckinghamshire, where a Softspikes floor display was moved from behind the counter to the main shop floor area. This led to the product "selling itself" and eliminated the need for the club’s assistants to spend valuable time reminding golfers that their Softspikes needed checking and changing.
At Nevada Bob’s Eastleigh store meanwhile, an upsurge in sales was reported almost immediately after introducing two Softspikes floor displays according to manager Glenn Delve.
Make the Softspikes brand name visible and increased sales will follow. Softspikes’ now dominates the market to such an extent it has become the generic name for plastic golf cleats with 18 of the 23 golf shoe brands trading in the U.K today using a golf cleat made by Trisport (Softspikes’ sister company).
In 2000 FootJoy also decided to put the hugely successful Black Widows cleat by Softspikes as standard equipment on all their golf shoes throughout Europe.

Black Widow cleats by Softspikes, which dominated the weekly totals on the 2002 PGA Tour, laid the foundation for another successful season last week at the Mercedes Championships.
The winner of the Mercedes Championships, which annually kicks off the PGA Tour campaign, wore Black Widow cleats. He is the same player who wore Black Widow cleats to victory at the 2002 British Open, one of 19 PGA Tour events won last year by players using Black Widow cleats.
The winner was hardly the only player wearing Black Widow cleats. In fact, 17 of the 19 players (89 percent) wearing plastic cleats chose to wear Black Widow cleats. Softspikes brand cleats were found on the shoes of 18 of the 36 players in the elite field. In all, 95 percent of the plastic cleats "in play" at the Mercedes Championships were Softspikes brand cleats.
That information is provided by the Darrell Survey, the only recognised source for statistical data on Tour.
Last year, at every full-field PGA Tour event, at least 75 percent of the field wore Black Widow cleats by Softspikes.
Black Widow cleats with Dynamic Cleat Technology (DCT) are No. 1 in sales world-wide and are original equipment on FootJoy performance golf shoes. At the Mercedes Championships, 61 percent of the field (including the winner) wore FootJoy golf shoes, according to the Darrell Survey.
Through its innovative displays and packaging, Softspikes encourages all golfers to maximise their performance by checking their cleats. They just may need a change.

Smith already has a wealth of knowledge of the European Seniors Tour, caddying for Seniors Tour veteran, and winner of the 2007 Gloria Classic, Nick Job for the past 7 years.
The presence of Phil on Tour representing Pride Sports has already seen a growing demand for both Softspikes and PTS Golf Tee products amongst the stars of the Seniors Tour. An amazing 98 % of Senior Tour player’s are now using Softspikes cleats in their golf shoes, in particular the new Pulsar Coloured cleats have been extremely popular. In addition all caddies and the majority of players are also now wearing both Softspikes shirts and caps on course during tournaments

Today, PrideSports is the world leader in the design and manufacture of cleats, spikes and receptacles for the entire golf footwear industry.

This acquisition essentially formed the world’s premier golf accessories company. Today, PrideSports is the world leader in the design and manufacture of cleats, spikes, tees and receptacles across the entire golf industry.
Traditionally Softspikes cleats and PTS tees are stocked primarily in golf club pro shops and specialist golf retailers’, but there are a number of reasons why they should be stocked by independent sports retailers.
Both Tees and Cleats are ideal gifts for golfers, ranging from father’s day presents to stocking fillers for Christmas. By stocking these products in independent sports retailers’ customers will be able to purchase there rather than making a special trip to a golf discount store, which they might not know the location of.
With the vast majority of golfers playing other sports as well, stocking Softspikes Cleats and PTS Tees makes it so much more convenient for the customer to purchase all their sporting products under one roof.
Each and every golfer also needs to change their Softspikes at least once a year to improve traction, comfort and durability – but they need reminding of this fact because most golf shoes are quickly discarded into the boot of a car or shoe bag after a round and worn cleats are hardly ever noticed.
With colour also playing such an important role in sports equipment today, Softspikes has, this year, added four striking new colour styles to its successful Pulsar range of cleats.
These unique limited edition cleats are available from in Pink/ Salmon, Blue/Indigo, Red/White and Yellow/Black colour options, ensuring that as well as great performance on the durability, the Pulsar cleats now make a statement both in stores and on the fairways.
Following the successful launch of the Professional Tee System (PTS) in 2006, PrideSports, the world’s leading producer of golf tees, has also introduced “Retail” and “Green Grass” bags of tees to suit all store sizes.
PTS was created specifically to help golfers optimise their performance on the tee. With four different lengths of tees available, they are specifically designed to cater for the different sized drivers on the market today.
Currently, traditional 2 1/8" tees, the staple for the last 100 years, are proveing to be too short for some modern drivers. As a result, Pride introduced three longer tees, the ProLength 2 3/4", ProLength Plus 3 1/4" and Pro Length Max to cope with growing demand.
The introduction of the PTS system comes at a time when sales of oversize golf tees are increasing steadily. In fact, sales of long tees grew more than 100% at Pride in both 2005 and 2006, and are expected to grow by another 100% by the end of 2007. The idea couldn't be simpler each tee is colour-coded to correlate with the growing list of modern drivers today.
Following the successful launch of the Professional Tee System (PTS) in 2006, Pride Golf Tee Company, the world’s leading producer of golf tees, is delighted to introduce “Retail” and “Green Grass” bags of tees to suit all store sizes.
The Professional Tee System was created specifically to help golfers optimise their performance on the tee. With four different lengths of tees available, PTS is designed to cater for the different sized drivers on the market today.
Suddenly, traditional 2 1/8" tees, the staple for the last 100 years, proved to be too short for some modern drivers. As a result, Pride introduced three longer tees, the ProLength 2 3/4", ProLength Plus 3 1/4" and Pro Length Max to cope with growing demand.

Softspikes and Pride Golf Tee Company are now represented on the European Tour by golf professional, Graham Webb, and by Phil Smith on the European Seniors and Ladies European Tours. Phil is also caddy to Seniors Tour veteran Nick Job, who was victorious at the Gloria Classic this past weekend.
Already Graham and Phil’s presence on their respective tours has seen an increase in the number of players favouring both Softspikes in their golf shoes and PTS Golf Tees. The new Pulsar Couloured cleats have also gained particular notoriety amongst professionals who are now, in an increasingly fashion conscious era, able to match their cleats with clothing and golf shoes.
“We are excited with the success we have achieved already by having a presence on the European Men’s, Ladies and Senior Tours,” commented Sharon Smith, Pride Sports Sales & Marketing Manager. “As a company we feel it’s extremely important to show our support for all the major golf tours in Europe.”
Softspikes and PTS Golf Tees are a division of PrideSports, which was formed in January 2003 following Pride Manufacturing Company’s purchase of Softspikes Inc and its sister company Trisports Ltd of England. This acquisition essentially formed the world’s premier golf accessories company, as Pride and Softspikes are the world’s leading golf tee and golf cleat lines, respectively. Today, PrideSports is the world leader in the design and manufacture of cleats, spikes and receptacles for the entire golf footwear industry.
